What Students Love at the End of the Semester

This goes for college students, and high school students, all over the world. These are some things that we love while cramming for final exams, papers, presentations, and projects. By the end of the semester, we can hardly wait to get everything over with. All we can seem to think about, are what shows we need to binge watch on Netflix, during break.

Supergirl || Pilot Episode || TV Show Review

The newest show on CBS, Supergirl, aired its pilot last night. The actress who plays the famous female super hero is Melissa Benoist, who is famously known for her role as Marley Rose, a timid singer, on season 5 of Glee.
Before watching this show I knew little to nothing about Supergirl, I had known of Superwoman and of course Superman, but not Supergirl.
After watching the pilot here's what I've gathered about the new series main character.

  • She is Superman's cousin
  • She was sent at the same time as Superman to protect him
  • At that time she was around 14 years old, making her older than Superman
  • But as her pod leaves Krypton, it is affected my the planet's explosion that it drifts through space for roughly 20 years!
  • Then her pod eventually regains it's initial course and makes its way to Earth
  • Supergirl lands on Earth, where her cousin Superman, has already become the super hero he was born to be.
  • Superman finds her crashed pod and then takes his cousin to live with the same foster family he lived with
  • Instead of becoming a famous hero, Supergirl, who goes by Kara, grows up as normal as possible and ends up working for a media company
  • She is a secretary although she longs to follow in the footsteps of her cousin...

The Five People You Meet in Heaven || Current Book Update

This is one of the first few books I've had to read this semester. For my English course on Human Adulthood I had to read, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom. This book as about an elderly man who tragically passes away, and in heaven, he meets five people who have played a role in his life. Each of the five people, teach Eddie, the main character, a lesson, which in turn helps him understand why his life turned out the way it did.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it has also been adapted as a movie. The book, was a smooth, quick read, that has lots of different and compelling imagery. I'd like to share the five lessons recited in this book, by the people Eddie meets in heaven.

  1. "There are no random acts." (48) ~ This goes well with what we are all told, everything happens for a reason.
  2. "Sacrifice is a part of life." (93) ~ Sacrifice should not be looked down upon, it should be treated with serenity and gratefulness.
  3. Learn to forgive (142) ~ Holding onto negativity that stems from an experience only weighs you down. Let it go and forgive, the first to forgive is the happiest.
  4. Everyone has a purpose (191) ~ Never feel that you are not special. Everyone has a role in life. We all impact each other's lives, and that is what shapes us into who we become. We can only become wise from our experiences. You are unique, there is a reason God created you with the qualities you have. Take advantage of your skills, excel in life and be happy.

What do you think about these lessons? Are there others you would add?

How To Survive Mid-Terms || Advice

Hello! Don't worry, there is still a week or two until Mid-Terms. But if you don't begin to prepare now, time always slips away, and before you know it, you're cramming for tomorrow's exam.
I get so anxious about projects, exams and papers, especially presentations. Here is what I keep in mind during these stressful times <3

1. Stay Organized: I already LOVE my planner. When lots of assignments are coming up, I plan how much I'm going to work on certain assignments each day. I always work towards finishing assignments a night or two before the due date. People may call you an overachiever but, It's a relief to get things done and move on to other things. Plus, seeing other friends freak out right before a due date make me so anxious, why not complete things ahead of time?

2. Take it Easy: Study bit by bit everyday. Break up a difficult task into parts, then tackle a few parts each day. Leaving it all to the last night is tempting, but don't fall into that trap.

3. Find Motivation: It can be very hard to stay focused while studying. What I do is find something I can looked forward to. Create a sort of anchor that holds you down and helps you stay focused. I like to make plans for the weekend ahead of time, and use them as my motivation throughout the week. So, although I have to write a paper, I can always look forward to seeing friends Friday night, and that motivates me to get my work done.

4. Treat Yourself: Set mini goals while you study. Tell yourself you can enjoy some ice cream after you finish prepping your PowerPoint. Take minutes in between tasks and refresh yourself, get up, check the time and walk around, go talk to your roommate or listen to music. This prevents you from feeling overwhelmed and loosing track of time.

Good luck!

One Direction News, pshhhhh nothing Directioners Can't Handle

In recent news we were told about how the boys of One Direction are going on a break for a year. After they release their fifth album they will not be going on tour, instead they'll be going their separate ways and working on "individual goals" for about a year.
The big question is, will they get back together after their hiatus?

I believe that they will. I don't think they will be together for another four years after their break, but I'm hoping they won't permanently break up in a year.
Of course all us Directioners were shocked at this announcement but hey, cut them some slack. They have been working their butts off since they started blowing up the music charts. They have released an album every year since X-Factor. That is super impressive if you compare that to pretty much all other artists.

So, I can understand the band's need to take a break. It is definitely well deserved. They've had the happiness of millions of fans, on their shoulders. Thus it is OK for them to take a break and re ground themselves and their personal lives. Hey we should be happy for them and all their success. I love their music and their passion for their work and the love they have for their fans.

People claim that the fans are the ones who need a break from the band. I disagree, a week hasn't passed by without me searching for Harry Styles backgrounds on Pinterest. Or looking up new pics of Liam and Sophia on Instagram, or analyzing Harry's and Louis' tweets to see if they have come out yet (LARRY IS REAL). So, no, I don't think I'll be able to survive a year without new music from One Direction, but I'm sure they won't stray from social media while they're relaxing at home or climbing mountains to pick flowers, hahaha.

Routine and Stress || Advice

Yup, it's that time of year. Hate to break it to you but summer doesn't last forever. Although many of us wish it did, real life always rolls around the corner. After high school, there are many paths you can chose to take. For me I decided to stay in school and go to university.
Whatever you decide to chose, the most important thing is that you don't regret your decision. Living life without regret is something that drives me to live a life of adventure. As the cold rolls in and people fall into their daily routines, stress seems to magically appear on our shoulders.
There are many things you can do to prevent or relieve this stress. All over the internet this time of year there are tons of articles about "Back To School". I do not like this phrase, it makes me cringe when I see it plastered all over the halls of Target. In my mind I always try to hold on to the summer vibe. Stay calm, remember the good times and look forward to new times. To easily glide back into the routine life here's what I do:

  • Get a calendar: Tip one to staying organized, depend on a calendar to keep you up to date! Even if it's the calendar on your phone. You definitely don't want to miss out on a PLL marathon because you "forgot".
  • Grab a planner too: Yup, you will need both. In my planner I write daily To-Do lists, while the dates on my calendar are a subset of the dates I keep in my planner. You never want to forget about an exam or a paper!
  • Walk through your schedule: This is one for you college peeps. No one wants to be the person who walks into the wrong lecture and then have to walk out like a lost pup. Grab a friend and explore campus. It's a great way to reconnect with your university and catch up with your buds you haven't seen all summer!
  • Sleep well, eat well: Let's be honest, the earliest you went to bed this past summer was considered early the next day. A couple nights before the semester starts, try going to bed at least an hour or two earlier than you normally do. Your body and mind will thank you the next day.
Good Luck! Let me know what your plans are for the fall are, uni or work or both!

It's Not Summer Without You || Current Book Update

So last night I was bored and couldn't go to sleep. They say that reading helps you fall asleep. Apparently that doesn't work for me because I started and finished reading a whole book! And I still couldn't sleep after!
I read, It's Not Summer Without You by, Jenny Han. It's about 300 pages long and I read it in 2.5 hours. It's a very smooth read. It gets very deep, to be honest, I cried several times. The story line picks up right after the first book in the trilogy The Summer I Turned Pretty. Belly and the boys are in school. Midway through the year Conrad goes missing. This is what the book is based around, Conrad's disappearance and life after Susannah's death.

Productive || My Day

Hola friends, today was super productive. After I woke up and had my coffee, I opened my planner and made a to-do list for the day. I'm happy to say that I completed everything on my list!

I cleaned my room. I didn't just shove things away so they couldn't be seen, I LEGIT CLEANED. I de-cluttered a lot, threw away a lot of silly stuff I didn't need, then hung my piles of clothes that had built up over the days. After that I dusted and topped off all the cleaning with vacuuming and BAM, I was done,

After checking that off my list, I ran a few errands; a trip to the library, the grocery, and to uni to rent some textbooks.

Then I got home and went out to a late lunch with my family at Olive Garden. I ate a light meal; the traditional salad (yum) and a grilled chicken with roasted vegetables. Then we went to Sears to get new glasses! I ordered an awesome pair of tortoise frames that are speckled brown, yellow, and a bit of purple. I am psyched about them!

The night before, my friends and I planned a picnic at the local park. So I took my family and we spent the rest of the day outside playing sand volleyball. It was a blast. The weather was great too. The forecasted showers never came.

Now I'm snug in bed, possibly watching YouTube while typing this haha. I may also sneak in some browsing on Amazon before falling asleep.
Tomorrow is going to be a huge day! My three best friends and I are going to see One Direction, live in concert!!!!
I'll be sure to tell you all about it in tomorrow's post.

Nutella Rice Krispies || Recipes

Here's a chocolaty twist to a traditional crispy snack that everyone can enjoy.

Ingredients:
-1 tbsp butter
-10 oz bag large marshmallows
-Nutella
-Box of Rice Krispie cereal (any brand)

Utensils:
-large microwaveable bowl
-spoon
-tray (any size, preferably larger)
-microwave
-rubber spatula
-knife (plastic won't work)

Instructions:
**Read through all the steps first, to prep your utensils before starting**

Prep the Fluff:
-Take the large microwavable bowl and put in half the bag of large marshmallows.
-In the same bowl add the tbsp of butter.
-Also add 2 spoonfuls of Nutella to the bowl

Cook it, Mix it, Pour it, Pat it:
-Put the mixture in the microwave for 2 minutes. After 1 min, take out the bowl, the mixture should  have risen. Mix it all up, with a spoon, then place it back in the microwave for another minute.
-After taking the bowl out of the microwave for the second time, the mixture should have risen again. Take your spoon and mix it again.
-As you stir, begin to pour in the Rice Krispie cereal. Pour as much as you see fit, it depends, if you want the treats to be very condensed with fluff >> put less cereal, if you want the treats to be very crisp >> put more cereal.
-This next part needs to be done quickly as the fluff begins to stick to everything and then harden. So, with a rubber spatula, quickly pour your finished mixture of fluff and cereal into a tray, and then move it to fill the tray while patting it down. (the rubber spatula will not stick to the treats)

Finishing Touches:
-Once all this is done, let the treats sit for at least 15 minutes to cool down so you can cut them however you like, with very little trouble, then serve!
-Serve with Vanilla Ice Cream or watermelon for a coolly savory combination.

Thxoxoxo, and Enjoy!!

Perfect On Paper || Current Book Update

The book I'm currently reading is called Perfect On Paper by Maria Murnane. It's about a woman who had a perfect relationship. Then, unexpectedly it all fell apart. Even though her career may be rocketing, she struggles to find love, and I've still yet to see if she will find her true match. Love takes patience, even if it may seem unreachable. And she's been on date after date, I hope see doesn't lose hope!

A Work In Progress || Current Book Update

I got this book for my birthday last month. Connor Franta is a popular YouTuber. His videos are funny raw and original. He loves talking to the camera, ever since he was young, his father filmed all family events. So it was natural for Connor to sit in front of a camera and talk. This is his first book. So far, it's been about his life. It's not the cheese typical type of memoir. There are alot of photos and quotes and tips, memories, letters, jokes.... the list goes on. It is enjoyable and easy to read, the pages are a good quality and the cover is creative and artistic. I'm pretty sure I'll finish the book today. This is the second book I've read that was written by a YouTuber. The first one was Zoella's book Girl Online - great novel.
Usually I'm not that too fond of books that author's write about themselves. But Connor's book has proven to be different and he's a very unique and interesting person. If you want to learn more about him, check him out on YouTube, Connor Franta.

Proud Owner of New Wheels || Advice

My brother is getting the car I drove. No worries, it's because I got a new car :) On my way to work this morning, I was thinking about what to tell him about being a car owner. And there's a lot to know! Having your own car is the first step into independence as an adult. It's thrilling and freeing! Here's my advice on what you should know as a new driver!

  • Have Fun ~ Go places. Peal off that dang "STUDENT DRIVER" sticker and go. Weather you're alone or with friends, go! You're an adult now, you don't have to stay at home or rely on someone else to give you a ride. As YouTuber Fun For Louis would say "Live the Adventure".
  • What's That? ~ No one wants to open their trunk one day and see random stuff you never knew was there. Know what's in your car, and know where it is. If you sneeze, you want to know where the dang tissues are! If you get into a difficult situation, you want the reassurance of knowing that you're prepared. Know where all the car's legal docs are. Keep them all together. I have mine in a bright red folder, so that if anything where to happen, it can be spotted easily. These tips are for your sake and your passengers' sake.
  • Be Conscious ~ Get to know the feel of your car, how well it reacts to how YOU drive. Discover your car's limits, safely! If you have a lot of people in the car with you, make sure they all know that they have to listen to you, your the driver, their lives are in your hands, LITERALLY. No pressure, haha, it's better to get scared now and be conscious, then take everything too lightly.
  • Ask Yourself ~ Do I like music while I'm driving? If so, how loud? Do I like the windows open/closed? Would I mind people eating in my car? If so, am I prepared to clean their mess?
  • Go Shop ~ There are some essentials you need in your car, for you and your passengers. Other than the emergency stuff, you need everyday stuff: tissue box, bags for garbage, and wipes. These are the essentials that not many people think about because they are simple necessities, "the simple bear necessities...".
  • Stay Clean ~ my brothers are notorious for leaving crap in my car, from tissues to wrappers, to clothes, to who knows what! People judge your ride, what's inside reflects to them what kind of a person you are. Yup, it's true. So tell your passengers to pick up after themselves!
These tips are things I have learned over my years of driving, no one told me about this stuff, I learned on my own. If I was in your shoes, I would want to be told about these things. So this is for you guys! Go, welcome to adult hood.

Hair Prep Before the Pool || Advice

Everyone wants to keep their hair nice and healthy. Going to the pool and swimming is great exercise. But just because you like the pool, doesn't mean your hair does. To protect your hair, the goal is to reduce the amount of contact between your hair and the chlorinated water. Here are some tips to keeping your hair happy during those summer pool parties.

  • Cap It
    • Yup, the ultimate way to protect your hair in a pool is to wear a swim cap. Time to rock out your inner swimmer.
  • Tie It Back
    • Leaving your hair down while in the pool causes it to get tangled, which leads to damage. So, if you have short hair-pin it back, medium length hair-ponytail or bun, and long hair-braid.
  • Soak
    • Going into chlorinated water while your hair is dry, will cause it to soak up all the chemicals in the water thus stripping your hair of it's essential oils and leading to damage at the roots and ends of your hair. So, before going for a swim, rinse your hair with un-chlorinated water-tap water. This provides somewhat of a wall between the roots of your hair and the chlorinated water of the pool.
  • Condition
    • Use a leave in conditioner on dampened hair, before going in the pool. This creates a stronger wall between your hair and the chemicals of the pool, than just soaking your hair before.
  • Oil
    • Rather than using leave-in conditioner, you can lather your hair in coconut oil before swimming. It initially is the same concept as conditioning and soaking, to create a protective wall.

Revealed || Current Book Update

Onto the next book of the summer, which is titled, Revealed, by P.C Cast and Kristen Cast. This book is part of the House of Night series which has 11 books that were published from 2007 to 2013. Revealed, is the 11th book of the series, and my mom bought it for me signed by the authors! I've spent a few years reading this series, so it means a lot to have a signed copy.

I just did some research to see if there is a 12th book, and there is! It is titled, Released. It has already been published, so it is definitely on my list to read!

I started reading Revealed, right when it came out in 2013, but with college and work, I didn't have time to read it. I wanted to really sit down and enjoy the story, and putting in 10 minutes of reading it each night wasn't making it enjoyable. So, I set it aside and read shorter lighter books until just recently, when some of my time freed up after finals were over and I started working. I figured that since I didn't have any studies over the summer, I'd catch up on my reading list, and now I'm finally going to finish this one!

A quick summary of the story line; A young girl finds out she has been marked to become a vampire. Not only has she been chosen, but has also been given an affinity for all elements. She has to leave home and live at a school with many other's like her, and yet she always seems to end up at the center of all that goes on in the House of Night.

The Distance Between Us || Current Book Update

Hello everyone. I am starting a new series on my blog all about the books I'm reading. Since I'm now on summer break from university I've begun recreational reading. So, here is an update on the current book I'm enjoying.

I am reading a novel titled, The Distance Between Us. The author is Kasie West. According to my Kindle Paperwhite, I am 84% through the book *sad face* I don't want it to end! Quick summary for you guys, it's about a 17 year old girl who falls for a super rich guy who pushes her out of her sheltered life and helps her find out who she is. They help each other find their passions and it's a romance about two people with two totally different lives, who have a connection that brings them together. Ahhhh I am a hopeless romantic. Many people may think that this book it cheesy and "typical" but I love it so far. It's adorable and such a smooth read with really relate-able scenarios.

p.s.
If you'd like to check out this book, I bought it on my Kindle Paperwhite for $1.99!! What a deal ;)

Sincerely Carter || Current Book Update

Hello! Yes, I have read another book. It's time for an update! This book I read was titled, Sincerely Carter, by Whitney G. It took me a while for me to decide whether or not to post about this book. It was an impulse buy off of Amazon onto my Kindle Paperwhite. It's a modern day love story. Unexpectedly graphic, not violence graphic... love scene graphic, *if you know what I mean*. This caught me way off guard, and I didn't want to stop reading because I wanted to know what happened by the end of the book, honestly! *blushing*
In short, it's a story about two people, Carter and Arizona, who've been friends since 4th grade, but as they graduate college, they suddenly see each other in a different light...

It was a great book! Finished it in three days. Now hunting for the next one, comment below your suggestions!!

April || Favorites 2015

Hello friends! I am currently on summer break. Hopefully I'll be posting a lot more on my blog. Ill be posting updates through my tumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/justgeeklyfabulous

Here are my April Favorites, enjoy!

~PINK hot crush Victoria's Secret body butter:

This body butter smells like fresh lavender scented laundry. Its really creamy and thick, but when it's lathered on it is not sticky or heavy.
~Mason Jar:

Yes, I have finally fallen for the mason jar trend, I got this from a grocery store in Waynsville North Carolina for $1.50! It came with a screw on lid and a straw which I don't really use *sad face*
~Avon Nail Experts nail polish set of the gel strength base coat and UV gloss guard top coat:

I've gone through many base and top coat nail polishes, and so far, Avon has had the best quality.
~My big Calendar:

I bought this calendar towards the end of my university semester because I needed to organize all my events and studying sceduel, and it was super helpful! I have a whole studying process, if you'd like to know more, comment below!
~Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Eye shadow Palette:

I adore this palette, I use it every day. When i open it in the morning, I always take a moment to smell the chocolate. Yes chocolate! All the eye shadows in this palette are infused with coco powder. They are very high quality, and putting it on lasts me all day. The palette is perfect for all skin types, specially oily eyes! *like mine*

That's all for my April favorites. My list for my May favorites is already filling up!

Palm Sunday 2015 || OOTD

I had a lovely Palm Sunday this year. I hope you all did too.
This year I wore a neon yellow dress from Old Navy. It has flower stitching all over it, and it is fitted from top to right past the waist. My coat is from Anthropology. I is a bright pink/red color, with some flower patches sown on the back. It is also very long, but not as long as my dress, so I didn't look like I wasn't wearing pants!
I love the shoes I wore. They are like Chelsea boots, but they have an open heel. This makes them wearable in the spring.

Let me know if you'd like to know how I style my hair. I love sharing my techniques that have developed over a lot of practice. tweet me @hanachemaly or find me on Tumblr! (link on left bar)

March || Favorites 2015

Here are my favorite things from the month of March, enjoy ;)

Beauty:

  1. Secret Clinical Strength deodorant - I sweat a lot during the day. It's very frustrating, coming home, from a long day, and feeling uncomfortable in your clothes. I used to have to wash my shirts after wearing them once! This really wore out my clothing. I've tried a variety of deodorants, from spray to gel, and all different kinds of scents. But this product is by far the best one. Highly recommended for people who sweat easily.
  2. One Direction's One Moment Body Lotion - Putting all the 1D drama aside *sigh*, this lotion smells fantastic. It's a stronger scent, I would recommend it for evenings out.
  3. Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Lotion from Bath and Body Works - Japanese Cherry Blossom is my favorite scent at Bath and Body Works. This body lotion is triple moisture, so it glides super smooth on skin, and it doesn't leave any residue or sticky feeling!
Fashion:

  1. Jeans Vest - This is an essential for every women's closet. A jeans vest can be worn, pretty much over anything. You may have already noticed this is many of my OOTD I've been posting. I think jeans vest can bring a look together. If you feel like your outfit is missing something, layer on a jeans vest. Even with a sweatshirt/laid back look, a jeans vest can make you look put together even though you may have just rolled out of bed.
  2. White Converse - This is another essential to every women's closet. White converse match every. single. outfit. When you don't know what shoes to wear, you can always rely on converse to match. When I'm running late, and can barely decide what to wear, it's just one less worry to know that my converse will always match my outfit.

Randoms:

  1. Book The Death Cure -  The last book of The Maze Runner trilogy. Action packed, suspenseful, definitely a page-turner that brings adventure to reading. I'm going to talk more about this book in another post. (keep an eye out for that, coming soon!)
  2. Movie Insurgent - Movie modeled after the second book of the Divergent series. A thriller that constantly kept me on the edge of my seat. It was very well edited, the graphics are super modern and "on point".
Thanks guys! Make sure to share with your friends, and comment below YOUR March favorites!

First Post || Just Geekly Fabulous

Hello fellow readers, before I start my journey on this blog with all of you lovely people, I wanted to tell you a little about myself. Here's some random facts about me ;)

- I love mugs. Yes, I told you this was going to be random! haha, I especially like extra large mugs so I can enjoy eating cereal, oatmeal or yogurt in them.

- I have massive respect for artists. I love art, in all its variations. All you artists out there have so much patience and creativity its mind blowing. Thank you for sharing your skills and passion with the rest of us who are less fortunate in the artsy department.

- My dream is to travel the world and then settle down in Italy and make wine, yup, just like the movie A Good Year.

- My perfect chill scene is snuggling up in bed with a cup, nope -a mug- of hot chocolate, watching movies all night.

I hope you'll get to know me better through all my future posts. They will be all about fashion. I hope they inspire your inner fashionista <3
